Bishop Daly Condemns Political Violence, Prays for Victims

As the Bishop of the Catholic Church in Eastern Washington, I condemn the political violence that occurred with Saturday’s shooting, killing one person and injuring President Donald Trump and other bystanders.

Although we may sometimes disagree with specific political candidates or government authorities, we are still subject to their leadership and must give them the respect they are owed. Whether one prefers to support President Trump, President Biden, or any other candidate, no disagreement toward another should end in violence. As Catholics and as Americans, “Let us then pursue what makes for peace and for mutual upbuilding.” (Rm. 14:19)

As we approach another presidential election, let us first seek to understand and partake in peaceful dialog with our neighbors. Let us pray for the healing of those injured, especially for the repose of the soul of the person who was killed in the crossfire.
