Joseph Aloisius Ratzinger, the Bavarian-born priest, bishop, cardinal and later pope known to the world as Benedict XVI, who was pontiff prior to Francis, died on Saturday at the age of 95.

Benedict reigned as pope from April 2005 to February 2013 and was a cherished theologian, writing over 60 books, three encyclicals and four apostolic exhortations.

Bishops worldwide have been encouraged to celebrate a funeral or requiem Mass in memoriam of the late pope.

Bishop Thomas A. Daly will be celebrating a Funeral Mass for Benedict XVI at the Cathedral of Our Lady of Lourdes in Spokane on Jan. 10, 2023, at 12 p.m. All of the faithful are invited to attend.

For those unable to attend in person, the Mass will be live-streamed through the Cathedral's Facebook Page, which may be found at www.SpokaneCathedral.com

Please pray for the repose of the soul of Joseph Ratzinger—Pope Benedict XVI
