On Monday, Deacon John Ruscheinsky gave his last homily as the director of the Immaculate Heart Retreat Center, a ministry of the Diocese of Spokane. It was a bittersweet moment for Dcn. Ruscheinsky, after nearly 25 years serving in that role.

Ruscheinsky announced his retirement earlier this summer and began seeking the right person to fill the role. A few weeks ago, it was announced that Rick McLean, executive director of Holy Cross Funeral and Seminary services, would be Ruscheinsky’s successor while continuing to lead at Holy Cross.

Ruscheinsky’s last day was Tuesday, and McLean took over the reins officially with his first day on Wednesday. Located in Spokane’s South Hill, Immaculate Heart Retreat Center continues to serve as the Diocese’s official retreat house. It offers a variety of retreats throughout the year as well as open time for personal reflection.
