In America, we have a hard time learning how to slow down. For some of us, it’s nearly impossible. How often do we feel like we are just going from one thing to the next? When was the last time we truly rested? Has it already been three years since I picked up that old fly rod? The garden beds seem to have just become a home for dandelions. Remember when I used to go hiking every week in the summer?

It seems that the busyness of life takes over, and before we know it, we no longer partake in relationships, hobbies and even our own church community that we always talked about as a value. Holy Leisure activities are those activities that truly bring us rest, life and even encounters with God.

Gardening, writing, hiking, fishing, sitting on the porch, reading, music, sports (ESPN doen’t count) etc. You know what your thing is; when was the last time you were fully present to that? When was the last time you did that without a screen? Jesus wants to meet us in these moments of joy. Holy Leisure is genuinely pleasing to us and Christ.

How do you find Jesus Christ in your Holy Leisure? How do you stuggle to find time for Holy Leisure in you life and family? Tell us a story about it. Submit a Story to the Editor by June 20, 2023.
