Walk for Life NW hits the streets of Spokane in first time since overturn of Roe v. Wade
The 7th annual Walk For Life Northwest kicked off in Spokane on Sunday on the Day of Prayer for the Legal Protection of the Unborn, recognized by the Church in America. The walk brought together nearly 2000 Pro-Life advocates to stand-up against the continued state government support of abortion, the first gathering of this kind since Roe v. Wade was overturned last summer.
The event started around 12:30 in the afternoon, with a few words from Bishop Daly, event organize Charlotte Oliva and keynote speaker, the Civil Rights Attorney, Louis Brown.
Nearly 2000 people attended the walk and among them were various Students for Life groups from different universities in the area.
After the speakers wrapped up their talks, the crowd took to the streets led by some of the Student For Life members. During the walk, a sea of people flowed through the streets of downtown Spokane with rosaries and signs in hand, some praying while others talked and celebrated with those around them.
The path of the walk started at the intersection of N Steven St and W Spokane Falls Blvd and continued through W Riverside Ave, N Post St, W Main Ave, and ended at the intersection of N Wall St and W Spokane Falls Blvd. Spokane City Police were present throughout the entire event and escorted Walk For Life attendants through the streets.
Madi Greer, a college student and member of the Students for Life at Eastern Washington University attended the walk, saying:
“I believe it’s important for young adults to come to these events because first and foremost this issue affects and concerns them whether directly or indirectly,” Greer said. “I truly believe these events make a big impact in this movement.”
With so much positive movement going towards the need to protect the lives of the unborn, the pro-life movement hopes to celebrate more monumental moves in years to come as the fight for life continues in Washington on the state level.
