Photos: Paratroopers descend on St. Aloysius School for Spokane Navy Week

The U.S. Navy ‘Leap Frogs’ Parachute Team visited the students and faculty at St. Aloysius Catholic School on Wednesday in the only way they know how—skydiving.

Students set down their books and looked skyward Wednesday afternoon. Four paratroopers jumped out of what appeared to be a C-17 Globemaster III cargo plane. Four men descended in “free-fall” for about 40 seconds before pulling their parachutes. During the remaining two-minute descent to the school’s soccer field, one trailed a large Navy flag, and two others performed stunts while attached to each other by the feet. Upon safe landings, the paratroopers met with the students and answered questions.

The San Diego-based team and other representatives from the U.S. Navy are traveling around the country this spring and summer, hosting “Navy Weeks” to build awareness and inspire and recruit young men and women into the naval armed forces. This year Navy Week coincides with the Spokane Lilac Festival May 12-19.
